Postpartum care involves more than clinical support. New mothers need a comfortable environment, convenient access to services, and peace of mind knowing their babies are being closely cared for. 

Mennonite Christian Hospital introduced Advantech iWard at its Postpartum Nursing Care Center to bring room services and nursing information together. The result is a more responsive care environment for mothers, babies, and staff.

Mothers need time to rest and recover, but everyday requests from adjusting the room environment to accessing educational information can interrupt that experience.

At the same time, care teams need clear visibility into each baby’s condition and location. When information is spread across different systems, it becomes harder to maintain a complete view of care activities. 

The hospital needed a connected approach that could support three priorities:

Room Services for Mothers

Through a personal LINE account, mothers can adjust room lighting, curtains, and air conditioning without leaving the bed. They can also access maternal and infant education and make meal reservations through the system.   

In-room smart TVs provide entertainment and support mobile screen casting. Digital door displays allow mothers to personalize door messages and manage room access remotely.

Infant Monitoring and Location Tracking

Contactless monitoring tracks heart rate and respiratory rate in the nursery and alerts staff when an abnormal condition is detected.   

RTLS-enabled bassinets report each baby’s location, record rooming-in activities, and issue an alert if a bassinet enters a restricted area.   

Mothers can view their baby through a dedicated video feed on LINE or the in-room smart TV. Electronic paper bedside cards record the baby’s daily routines for mothers and care staff.

Centralized Information for Care Teams

At the nursing station, iWard brings maternal, infant, and operational information into one view. 

Care teams can access rooming-in reports, maternal information, real-time infant physiological data, nursery CCTV views, staff schedules and locations, room-cleaning status, and evacuation information.

With iWard, Mennonite Christian Hospital has created a postpartum care environment that connects hospitality, infant safety, and clinical coordination.
